What to expect

Our team of healthcare experts is testing an investigational study drug to see if it can help your droopy eyelids. The investigational study drug will be compared with a placebo. A placebo looks like the investigational study drug but does not have any effect on your body.

The investigational study drug and placebo come as eye drops. You will be asked to put in the eye drops twice a day for 6 weeks.

If you take part, you will join one of two groups. You will have a one in two chance of receiving the investigational study drug and a one in two chance of receiving the placebo. You cannot choose which group you will join.

The study could last up to 9 weeks and is made up of 3 parts:

Part 1: Screening (1 week) – you will have tests at your nearest study centre to see whether you can take part

Part 2: Study treatment (6 weeks) – if you qualify, you will use the investigational study drug or placebo

Part 3: Follow-up (2 weeks) – you will be asked to return to the study centre once more to check on your health

Over the course of the study, you will be asked to attend the study centre approximately 5 times. There may be additional visits required, which will be decided by the study doctor.

What happens at the study centre?

During visits to the study centre, you will have tests and be asked questions to see how you are responding to the investigational study drug. The following tests will occur at some point in the study:

You will be asked to complete several questionnaires to see how your droopy eyelids are affecting your quality of life.

You will be asked to pee into a container to check if you are pregnant.

Your blood pressure will be measured using a cuff around your upper arm, and the number of times your heart beats in one minute will also be counted.

Both your eyes will be examined to check your vision and eye health.

Photographs will be taken of your eyes, including the area from your nose to your forehead.
